80:20 Communications was invited to present to a group of Guildford-based SMEs last night, who wanted to learn about public relations. The evening was organised by networking group Raw Business and Marc used the session to explain the main principles of media relations and various techniques that SMEs can use to do their own PR effectively. It was nice to contribute something to the local business community in this way, and has given us the idea of developing some training-based services that smaller firms could afford. More on that to follow.
We have been encouraged by a clear rise in our number of new business meetings since March. It looks as if many companies are becoming more optimistic, although – as throughout this recession – some sectors are definitely chirpier than others. It will be interesting to see what impact the change in UK government has on this situation. Overall, we continue to believe that a recession is similar to a period of mourning, and that after a suitable period of grief everyone wants to return to ‘life us usual’. A more upbeat mood is definitely there, so let’s hope that the promised tax changes do nothing to unsettle it.
