Media Moves: Legal Business


Claire Coe Smith has now replaced James Baxter as editor of Legal Business and will work four days a week until the end of April, when a permanent editor will take over. Claire will return to her work as a full-time freelance writer and researcher in May 2010.

Express Yourself: Me and I (and Terry and June)

To some people’s ears, the sentence: “Terry is going shopping with June and I” sounds perfectly reasonable and correct. To those same people, the statement: “Terry is going shopping with June and me” might well sound rather colloquial and improper.

In fact, the latter version is grammatically correct. A simple set of guidelines helps explain. (more…)

Who will edit the Indie under Lebedev?


Friday is expected to see the Independent and Independent on Sunday sold to Russian oligarch Alexander Lebedev, under whose ownership the London Evening Standard became a freesheet last year. The fact that Lebedev and his son met Gordon Brown this week seems to confirm that the deal is likely to go through. Everyone is waiting to see if Lebedev will also make the Indie a free newspaper, which could cause some headaches for certain other daily papers. (more…)
